Vol. 492 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

David Stanton

Ceist:

149 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of rooms the new primary school which he has sanctioned at Walterstown, Cobh, County Cork, will contain; and the date on which he expects the new school to be completed. [14663/98]

I recently authorised the project at the school referred to by the Deputy to commence the planning process for a new building. The project will now progress through the various stages of architectural planning. These stages include appointment of the design team, the preparation of sketch drawings, planning permission approval and the preparation of tender documents. At this stage it is too soon to give the Deputy a date on which I expect the new school to be completed.

In determining the level of accommodation to be provided, I can assure the Deputy that my Department will take account of the school's long-term requirements.
