Vol. 492 No. 5

Written Answers. - Council of Europe Conferences.

Ceist:

73 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the last occasion on which Ireland attended the conference of Council of Europe migration ministers; the membership of the Irish delegation, including officials in attendance; the outcome of their deliberations; if he will give details of the next meeting; and if Ireland will be represented. [14600/98]

The 6th Conference of European Ministers responsible for Migration Affairs took place in Warsaw on 16-18 June 1996. The then Minister for Justice was represented at the conference by two senior officials of that Department. The outcome of the deliberations is contained in a final communiqué adopted by the conference. I have arranged for a copy of the communiqué to be provided to the Deputy.

The next meeting of the conference is scheduled to take place in 2000. However, discussions have yet to take place in Strasbourg on specific dates and the agenda for this meeting. The question of representation by Ireland will be examined after the necessary preparatory work for the conference has been completed.
