Michael Ring

Ceist:

81 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo, who had 600 sheep and a further 200 sheep leased following his membership of the REP scheme, was reduced down to 400 sheep instead of the 600 which he owned. [14612/98]

Under the rural environment protection scheme, it was possible to claim a destocking payment where the agri-environmental plan provided for a reduction in stock numbers below the lesser of the quota rights owned or actual numbers in 1995. In this case the owned quota was reduced from 600 to 200, a reduction of 400 ewes, and the destocking premium was therefore calculated on that number.
