Vol. 492 No. 5

Written Answers. - Emigrant Advice Services.

Ceist:

110 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will provide details of voluntary organisations provided with funding by his Department which provide advice services for emigrants; and the amounts given for 1998 or for the last year for which data is available. [14590/98]

No applications for funding have been received to date in 1998 from voluntary organisations providing advice or services for emigrants. My Department has provided funding in recent years for Emigrant Advice, based in Cathedral Street, Dublin 1, to help it develop and extend its services, particularly in the area of pre-departure information and advice. Grants of £10,000, £16,000 and £16,000 were provided in 1995, 1996 and 1997 respectively. A further grant of £7,250 was also provided in 1997 towards the cost of a research project co-ordinated by the Irish Episcopal Commission for Emigrants.
