Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Youth Services.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

376 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a request for funding at the rate of £1 per hour for the 6,000 adult voluntary leaders who devote approximately 500 hours per year looking after children who are members of Scouting Ireland, CSI; if he will consider this allocation in order to provide an equivalent professional service for youth which would amount to £3 million which is considerably more than the £313,000 which the association currently receives from the Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15217/98]

My Department has received the request referred to by the Deputy. Unfortunately, due to the high level of ongoing commitments it is not possible to consider the request at this time. However, if additional funding becomes available the matter can be further explored.
