Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Arterial Drainage Schemes.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

147 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the compensation, if any, paid to farmers in the Moy catchment area where arterial drainage resulted in the heaping of spoil on adjacent land thereby rendering it useless for agricultural use; the arrangements, if any, the Office of Public Works has made to spread this spoil and recover with topsoil in order to render the land useful again; and, if so, the circumstances in which they will provide this service. [16774/98]

The Moy scheme was carried out over a number of years, ending in 1971. It is not possible in the short time available to me to say what compensation, if any, was paid to the person concerned for loss of agricultural production. However, I will ensure that this information is made available to the Deputy in the coming days.
