Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

214 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when it is proposed to open the Garda station at Doochary, County Donegal, on a full-time or part-time basis. [16748/98]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. They have informed me that the strength of Doochary Garda Station is one Garda. I understand from them that the garda attached to Doochary Garda station was promoted to the rank of sergeant in April 1998 and transferred elsewhere in the Donegal Garda Division.

I am further informed that the vacancy in Doochary has been advertised within the Donegal Division and that applicants will be considered in due course. The Garda authorities have informed me that pending the filling of this vacancy policing of the Doochary sub-district is being carried out by members attached to the District Headquarters Garda Station at Glenties who open the Garda Station and patrol the sub-district on an ongoing basis.
