234 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will restore the concessionary post to the all-Irish section of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for an additional two years in view of the increased enrolment for September 1998 and the fact that, without this post, the school would only be in a position to offer limited subject choice which would restrict the career options for students in senior cycle; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The school referred to by the Deputy is under the control of County Kilkenny VEC. The allocation of teaching resources to the school is a matter, in the first instance, for the VEC.

My Department is currently considering an appeal for additional staffing resources for County Kilkenny VEC in respect of the 1998/99 school year. The VEC will be advised of the position in the near future.
