Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

239 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a general purpose area for Portlaw National School, Portlaw, County Waterford (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16618/98]

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

265 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funding for the refurbishment of a section of the old Convent National School in Portlaw, County Waterford, to make provision for a general purpose area for Portlaw National School, which is an eight teacher school and all accommodation is taken up with classrooms. [16787/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 239 and 265 together.

My Department has received a request from Portlaw national school for grant-aid towards provision of a general purpose facility. The school's proposal is to refurbish the vacated convent school building in order to provide the facility. The proposal will be examined by my Department's building unit. At this stage it is too soon to comment on provision of funding.
