Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - GAA Clubs.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

18 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the discussions, if any, his Department has had with the British authorities on the removal of the British Army base from the Crossmaglen GAA property. [16474/98]

The Government has made clear that we wish to see the entire grounds of the Crossmaglen Rangers GAA Club returned to them by the security forces. This issue has been raised on a considerable number of occasions with the British authorities.

The British-Irish Agreement makes provision for a programme of de-escalation of security measures, including the removal of security installations. We look forward to progress being made in this area.
I wish to assure the Deputy that the Government will continue to pursue this matter actively with the British authorities until there is a satisfactory resolution.
