210 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is being penalised for his mistake in complying with a genuine REP scheme request to reduce his flock during a requisite retention period for the purposes of payment of his 1998 ewe premium. Ceist:

211 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if payment of a 1998 ewe premium will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [18647/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 210 and 211 together.

The person named applied on 102 ewes under the 1998 ewe premium scheme. Subsequent to this application he applied to join the REPS scheme and under his REPS plan he was required to reduce his sheep numbers to 75.

Payment of the first advance of the 1998 ewe premium will be made shortly together with the second advance on the 75 eligible ewes he kept in his flock during the retention period.

Ivan Yates
