Ceist:401 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will outline the procedures for couples to bring a child into this country who was adopted abroad. [18732/98]

Persons who have been issued with a declaration by the Adoption Board, stating they are eligible to adopt by virtue of section 10 of the Adoption Act, 1991 and are suitable by virtue of section 13 of the Adoption Act 1952, can apply to the immigration division of my Department for a letter permitting the entry to the State of a child legally adopted under the law in the child's country of birth. Permission to enter the State is subject to the child being in the company of an adoptive parent. The parent must also be in possession of the adoptive papers and passport in respect of the child for presentation to the Irish immigration authorities.
