Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

453 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the order in which he intends to introduce promised legislation to Dáil Éireann; and the plans, if any, he has to lay before Dáil Éireann the heads of these Bills in order that Deputies can prepare for their consideration before initiation. [18741/98]

The General Schemes of the Education and Training (Qualifications) Bill and the School Attendance Bill have been prepared by my Department and have been referred to the Office of the Attorney General for drafting. I would expect that both of these Bills will be published at the end of this year or early in the new year and enacted later next year.

The General Scheme of the Youth Work (Amendment) Bill will be submitted to the Government shortly and will be referred thereafter to the Attorney General's office for drafting.
The Teaching Council Bill and the Vocational Education (Amendment) Bill will both be published next year.
In accordance with standard procedure, I have no plans to lay the heads of these Bills before Dáil Éireann prior to their publication.
