Vol. 495 No. 2

Written Answers. - Farm Transfers.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

95 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money paid in stamp duty on farm transfers since 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19182/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the data is not broken down so as to distinguish between "farm" transfers and transfers of other land-property. Data on the amount of stamp duty paid on transfers of land to young trained farmers since 1994 is available because a special relief applies in such cases and the figures area as follows: 1994, £1.1 million; 1995, £2.3 million; 1996, £3.1 million and 1997, £2.3 million.

However, since it is not known what proportion of total farm transfers relates to young trained farmers, it is not possible to infer the overall level of stamp duty collected from farm transfers from these figures.
