Vol. 495 No. 2

Written Answers. - Agricultural Schemes.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

121 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of appeals sent to his Department in County Sligo since January 1998; and the number of applicants who have been successful. [19760/98]

There were 22 appeals received in the headage and premia appeals unit from herdowners in County Sligo from 1 January 1998 to 14 October 1998. Of those 22 appeals, two have been concluded to date. One appeal was successful and the other appeal was reviewed by the district livestock office and was successful. The remaining 20 appeals will be examined in due course and the herdowners will be notified of the outcome.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

122 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when it is intended to have the installation aid scheme for young trained farmers reinstated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19793/98]

My Department has submitted the terms of a revised, more focused installation aid scheme targeted towards those young farmers most in need of assistance to the Department of Finance and to the European Commission for approval. The Commission recently raised questions about some aspects of the proposal. My Department has responded in detail to the Commission and again stressed my desire to secure the earliest agreement for the new measure.
