Vol. 495 No. 2

Written Answers. - Multi-denominational Schools.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

199 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will confirm the granting of permanent recognition to Lucan Educate Together School; and if his Department will assist the school in expediting the move from the current premises to more suitable long-term accommodation (details supplied). [19786/98]

Lucan Multi-Denominational School was established in September 1997 with temporary recognition. The purpose of temporary recognition is to enable the school to demonstrate over a period of time that it has a viable future. During that period, the onus is on the school management to provide suitable temporary accommodation for the school. My Department normally grant-aids 50 per cent of any reasonable rental charges accruing under this arrangement.

The school authorities have applied for permanent recognition for the school and an Inspector's report has now been received and is being evaluated. The school management will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.

The question of a permanent location and accommodation for the school will be addressed when the school receives permanent recognition.
