39 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Finance the consideration, if any, his Department has given to moving from a tax allowance to a tax credit based system in respect of income tax in the forthcoming budget; the advantages and disadvantages in maintaining the present tax allowance system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I would refer the Deputy to the question I answered on Priority Questions today from Deputy McDowell on tax credits. In my reply I outlined the position in this regard. This issue is one which I will be examining in the run up to the budget.
