Vol. 495 No. 3

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

45 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Defence if he will restore civilian staff levels in all grades in Stephens Barracks, Kilkenny, to 1983 levels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19835/98]

I refer the Deputy to my answer to a previous question taken on Wednesday, 7 October 1998, on the specific issue of the number of civilian employees working with the maintenance company at James Stephens Barracks, Kilkenny. In addition to ten civilian maintenance staff there are also two civilian clerk typists and a civilian kitchen and mess helper employed at Stephens Barracks, bringing the total number of civilian staff there to 13 in all. This existing level of staffing is considered adequate.

There are no proposals at present to increase the number of civilian employees at James Stephens Barracks.
