Ceist:

207 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the shortage of teachers in a school (details supplied) in County Limerick, the consequent overcrowding of classes and the narrowing of the range of subjects available to students; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 203, 205 and 207 together.

School authorities may apply for an increase in the approved teacher allocation to cater for particular circumstances. Applications of this nature are considered under the curricular appeal process and each case is considered on its merits. As the Deputy will appreciate additional resources must be considered in light of overall fiscal policy.
