64 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has been requested to increase the State's financial assistance for the replacement of the whitefish fleet; the consideration, if any, being given to this request; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21869/98]
BIM has advised me that there has been a very high level of good quality applications for grant aid for new vessels under the whitefish scheme. In light of the welcome response to the scheme, I am reviewing all options for maximising to best advantage available EU support for the programme. I expect to announce the successful applications under the programme shortly.
