92 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the progress, if any, to date in relation to the possible extraction of the gypsum deposits at Glangevlin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21849/98]
The prospecting licence over the Glangevlin area issued for a period of two years in 1996. During the period of exploration the company concerned more than met the expenditure requirements of the licence. In accordance with normal practice, the company furnished confidential work reports to my Department and sought and was granted renewal of the licence for a further two year period commencing in March of this year. In view of the encouraging results of the exploration programme over the first two years, the current work programme includes a feasibility study for mine development which is expected to be completed within the period covered by the renewal of the licence.
