Vol. 496 No. 1

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Michael Ferris

Ceist:

101 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason no funds were allocated from the tourism angling measures for Lough Derg in the matter of brown trout stocking, spawning ground enhancement and predator control; the plans, if any, he has to provide these funds in future rounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19957/98]

I am advised by the Central Fisheries Board that there have been no applications for funding of angling development works for Lough Derg under the tourism angling measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism. Lough Derg is owned by the ESB.

Priority is currently being given to improving water quality standards in the Lough Derg catchment, together with enhancing biological data in relation to the system, as essential prerequisites to any future angling development programme.
