Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

238 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he has to decentralise further Government Departments to Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22343/98]

The position is that the current programme of decentralisation has yet to be completed and there are no immediate plans to extend it to any further centres. However, I am considering the many issues relevant to decentralisation policy and I propose to discuss these with my colleagues in Government.

The Deputy will be aware that Waterford has already benefited from the decentralisation programme with the location there of 141 staff of the Land Registry and 28 staff of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs.
