Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

263 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the hospitals which provide services for children suffering from leukaemia; if he has satisfied himself with the level of service; the proposals, if any, he has to expand this service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22466/98]

Treatment for childhood leukaemia is provided in four public hospitals in Ireland. These are Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, the Adelaide and Meath Hospital incorporating the National Children's Hospital, Tallaght, University College Hospital, Galway and the Mercy Hospital, Cork.

I have asked the National Cancer Forum to advise me on issues relating to the provision of treatment services for children diagnosed with leukaemia, with particular reference to the most appropriate approach to the assessment, care plan and follow-up of cases. I expect to receive a report on the matter from the forum shortly.
