Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

415 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, he has to provide an extra teacher at CBS Dundalk, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22500/98]

The staffing of primary schools is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. The ninth teaching post at the school referred to by the Deputy was withdrawn at the end of the 1997-98 school year because the enrolment at the school declined from 259 pupils in September 1996 to 252 pupils in September 1997. The retention figure for the ninth teaching post was 257. I regret, therefore, that there does not appear to be a basis for allocating additional staffing to the school at this stage.
