Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

433 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a medical grant for school transport was not paid in respect of persons (details supplied) in County Kerry for the 1997-8 school year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22702/98]

I understand that only one member of the family in question qualifies for a medical grant towards the cost of private transport arrangements. This grant, which is payable at the end of each school year, was sanctioned with effect from September 1995.

Before such grants may be paid, a statement of attendance must be forwarded to my Department setting out the number of days the child attended school during the year, and the number of days on which the school was open.

Unfortunately, no such statement was submitted to my Department in respect of this child for the 1997-98 school year. However, my Department will be pleased to make payment to the family in question on receipt of the appropriate statement of attendance.
