453 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if an increase in salary and arrears will be awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny under clause 2 (111) of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work paid at the earliest possible date. [22865/98]
The claim by the Manufacturing, Science, Finance, MSF, trade union is for the increases granted under the PCW to technicians in the institutes of technology to be applied to a person who is employed in a second-level vocational school. This claim falls to be considered and negotiated having regard to the merits of the case.
The employer in this instance is County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee. I have had inquiries made and the position is that the claim by the MSF union on behalf of the person concerned was received in the VEC last Thursday, 5 November 1998.
The normal position is that the trade union would meet with the employer to discuss the claim with the involvement of officials of my Department as necessary.
