50 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the gas infrastructural proposals, if any, included in her Department's overall submission to the Department of Finance concerning Structural Funding requirements for the period 1999-2006; and if she will make a statement on the matter. EU funding requirements for the period 1999-2006 in respect of the gas sector have been included in my Department's overall submission to the Department of Finance concerning proposals for investment in the energy, public transport and communications sectors. The proposals include two gas infrastructural projects, one for a second gas interconnector and the other for an extension of the gas network to the midlands and the west.
The Department's submission, among others, is being examined by the Economic and Social Research Institute, which has been engaged by the Department of Finance as the ex anre evaluator for the next round of Structural Funds.
