Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Electricity Interconnector.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

78 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the position concerning the ESB interconnection with the North; if she will guarantee that no electricity generated from nuclear power plants, including Sellafield, will be imported into our national grid; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22655/98]

The electricity interconnector with Northern Ireland is currently used for spot energy trading between ESB and Northern Ireland Electricity.

There is no connection between any part of Ireland and any country which has nuclear power.

The Government remains firmly committed to an anti-nuclear policy.
