Ceist:136 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if legislation will be introduced shortly on the restructuring of the ESB; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23144/98]
Written Answers. - ESB Restructuring.
It is my intention that legislation will be introduced next year to restructure the ESB. This legislation will be part of wider legislation to implement the EU directive on the introduction of competition to the electricity market.
In the meantime, I will introduce legislation shortly in this House to establish the commission for electricity regulation, which will be the first phase of the implementation of the EU directive. It is my intention that the commission will be established in the new year.
