Vol. 496 No. 4

Written Answers. - Interdepartmental Co-ordinating Team.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

230 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Health and Children the membership of the interdepartmental co-ordinating team comprising officials of his Department and the Departments of Education and Science and Justice, Equality and Law Reform which is chaired by the Minister of State at his Department; and the number of occasions on which the team has met since the Government took office. [23052/98]

The interdepartmental co-ordinating team which I chair comprises the principal officers of the child care policy unit and the child care legislation unit for which I have responsibility in the Department of Health and Children and the principal officers responsible for the respective areas where I have authority in the Departments of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and Education and Science. Other officials attend on occasion as necessary. My private secretary acts as secretary to the group. The co-ordinating team is scheduled to meet at monthly intervals and thus far has met on six occasions since I was formally assigned responsibilities in the Departments of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and Education and Science earlier this year. In, addition to these formal co-ordinating meetings I have held regular meetings with officers of my three Departments on a wide range of issues relative to my areas of responsibility.
