253 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will consider including the Hunt Museum, County Limerick for funding to facilitate free access to the museum in her review of the organisation of national cultural institutions; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I am not carrying out any review at present of the organisations of national cultural institutions.
The review to which I assume the Deputy is referring is one currently being undertaken by consultants in relation to the potential for income generation by institutions under the aegis of my Department or with a current funding relationship with it. As the Hunt Museum is receiving short-term funding from my Department it is also included in the study. It is a condition of my Department's funding support that he Hunt Museum commits itself to a policy of becoming self-sustaining in the medium term. To this end, I understand that the museum has established an endowment fund as an instrument with which to fund its activities on an ongoing basis.
