Ceist:321 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 249 of 7 October 1997 in relation to the purchase of a site for a school, the commitment referred to was honoured; if his Department has abdicated its responsibility in this regard; if he will carry out an investigation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 299 and 321 together.
My Department was unable to complete the acquisition of the proposed site for Gaelscoil Ó Dóghair within the contract timeframe due to difficulties in securing sewage connections and planning permission. The vendor has now rescinded the contract.
My Department's intention is to provide a school for the Gaelscoil and we are endeavouring to seek an alternative site in conjunction with the school management.
