Vol. 496 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

303 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the procedures to be followed by the board of management of a school seeking financial assistance towards the cost of an extension, classroom and storeroom; the steps to be taken before sanction will be granted for the works; and the means, if any, whereby an application can be expedited where the local community is prepared to fund the extension to a greater degree than is normally required. [23026/98]

The procedures to be followed in applying for grant aid for capital works were set out in the National School Capital Programme publication which issued to all schools in 1994. It is open to school management to apply to the Department for grant aid for an extension. Each application is considered on its merits, having regard to the school's existing accommodation and competing demands for capital funding.
