Vol. 496 No. 4

Written Answers. - Salmonella Outbreak.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

101 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Defence if the inquiry into the recent salmonella outbreak at Renmore Barracks, County Galway, has been completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22949/98]

An investigation was carried out by Dr. Maura O'Shea, Director of Public Health with the Western Health Board, at the request of the military authorities in relation to the salmonella outbreak at Renmore Barracks, Galway, in July of this year. While the strain of salmonella was identified, its source was not discovered. The military authorities are very conscious of food hygiene requirements in all their establishments and the procedures in place to ensure high standards are kept under constant review.
