Vol. 496 No. 4

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

103 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a club (details supplied) has been locked out of Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the club has used a building for training in Devoy Barracks for the past 40 years; if, in view of his commitment to the people of Naas of 16 July 1998 whereby he promised to assist the community of Naas with the change in status of Devoy Barracks, he will allow the club to return to the barracks to train as was the case prior to his closure announcement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22992/98]

The position is that it is proposed to dispose of Devoy Barracks as soon as possible and, accordingly, it would not be practical to allow the club in question to continue to avail of the facilities at the barracks.
