Vol. 497 No. 3

Written Answers - Millennium Projects.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

144 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will consider a programme to build an Irish oak grove in selected and widespread areas of Dublin to mark the millennium (details supplied). [25109/98]

The National Millennium Committee, established under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach, is examining the feasibility of allocating a part of the millennium fund to a scheme for co-funding local authority and-or community based projects to mark the millennium. This examination will consider issues such as the best way to allocate such moneys as may be made available, criteria for the selection of projects, the geographic spreads of funds and the inclusion of areas of disadvantage. While it is intended to announce details of the proposed scheme as soon as a possible, no indication can be given at this stage of whether funding is likely to be available for any specific project.
