Vol. 497 No. 3

Written Answers - Phoenix Park.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

155 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on the request of many local residents and users of the Phoenix Park to allow the Royal Dublin Zoological Society extend into the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin without closing the public road which separates both; if she will seek an alternative way of providing the extension, for example, underground tunnel connections. [25195/98]

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

164 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if arrangements will be made to leave the Spa Road, Phoenix Park, Dublin 8, open to pedestrian access when the adjoining lands are ceded to Dublin Zoo in view of the fact this road is a most attractive amenity used by many local residents. [25118/98]

Tógfaidh mé Ceisteanna Uimh. 155 agus 164 le chéile.

In the context of the public consultation process being carried out by the Office of Public Works, the proposed development at Dublin Zoo is under consideration by my Department at present. The proposed closure of a section of the Spa Road is one of the issues to be addressed by my Department in consultation with that Office.

It would be premature for me to comment at this stage in advance of the consultation process being completed but the Deputy may rest assured that the interests of the public will be afforded every consideration in assessing the issue.
