Vol. 497 No. 3

Written Answers - National Museum.

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

49 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress, if any, made in relation to the promised review of the opening hours of the different sections of the National Museum, having particular regard to the fact that they remain closed on bank holiday Mondays; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24785/98]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 15 on 18 June last and to Question 14 on 15 October last on this matter.

Both I and the National Museum are in favour of the extension of the opening hours of the National Museum in order to improve access by the public. There are, however, very serious human resource and financial implications inherent in such a move. However, the matter is under active consideration by the National Museum management and the Deputy will appreciate that I cannot give any indication at this stage as to when it might be possible to improve the opening hours on bank holiday Mondays.
