Vol. 497 No. 3

Written Answers - Capital Projects.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

70 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the capital projects involving funding from his Department scheduled to commence in the Waterford constituency in 1999; the estimated expenditure in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25044/98]

The Department of the Marine and Natural Resources is involved in funding two capital projects in the Waterford constituency during 1999. They are the construction of a station house for the Irish Marine Emergency Service coastal unit in Dunmore East and the improvement of facilities for the Air Corps search and rescue service at Waterford Airport. No estimate of expenditure can be given at this stage as tenders have not been requested or contracts signed.

The requirements of Waterford will also be considered in the context of the Fishery harbour development and coast protection programmes for 1999, details of which will be announced in due course.

I am advised that, subject to obtaining any required statutory permissions, Waterford Harbour Company proposes to undertake capital dredging of the River Suir during 1999-2000. While tenders have not yet been sought for the project, and funding arrangements have yet to be determined, it is estimated that the cost of works will be approximately £1 million over the life of the project.
