Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Services for People with Disabilities.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

234 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health and Children the action, if any, he will take to provide a local resource centre service for the disabled people who are not getting out of their homes on a regular basis; and the estimated number of disabled people who are not able to leave their homes due to the lack of resources in the community. [25813/98]

Day care services are one of the priority areas for development in services for people with physical and sensory disabilities and additional facilities are provided on an ongoing basis. The number of people with physical and sensory disabilities confined to their homes through lack of appropriate services is not known. However, steps are being taken to establish a database of the service needs of this group.
