Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

328 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will provide extra teachers for Salerno secondary school, Threadneedle Road, Salthill, Galway, in view of the fact the school has 473 students and 26 teachers; if he will reduce the teacher ratio at this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25359/98]

School authorities may apply for an increase in the approved teacher allocation to cater for particular circumstances. Applications of this nature are considered under the curricular appeal process and each case is considered on its merits.

As the Deputy will appreciate, additional resources must be considered in light of overall fiscal policy.
