Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Teachers' Allowances.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

329 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the trained allowance is not being paid to teachers who have primary degree (honours), Higher Diploma in Education (honours) and honours Irish in their leaving certificate; and if he will authorise the payment of the trained allowance to those who qualify. [25365/98]

A circular addressing all of the issues raised by the Deputy will be circulated to all schools in the near future.

As soon as this circular has been published, arrangements will be made to pay substitute teachers who possess the requisite qualifications at the trained substitute teacher rate.
