Billy Timmins

Ceist:

56 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if the review group examining lottery funding has completed its study; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25609/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 49, 52 and 56 together.

The sports capital programme is the primary vehicle for promoting the development of sports and recreation facilities in Ireland. It provides national lottery funding towards the provision and development of sports facilities at national, regional and local level and at present comprises a major facilities scheme and a recreational facilities scheme.

The programme has been under review for the past few months in my Department and I expect its report shortly and before year end. Once I have completed my consideration of its review, I will have details of any resulting revisions in the programme widely publicised. I am not in a position to say what changes, if any, will be made to the existing schemes pending completion of the review.
