Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Emigrant Services.

Ceist:

89 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the excellent work undertaken by the Irish Immigration Centre in Boston; if he will allocate further resources to this organisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25822/98]

The Irish Immigration Centre, Boston is one of many organisations in the US providing excellent advice and information services to Irish immigrants. Grants amounting to £153,700 were given to such groups from the Vote for the Department of Foreign Affairs this year. The amount provided for similar grants in 1999 is £175,450, an increase of over 14 per cent. It is not possible at this stage to indicate the organisations which will receive grants next year nor how much they will receive. If the Irish Immigration Centre, Boston applies for a grant again I can promise that the application will be sympathetically considered.
