Vol. 497 No. 7

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Gormley — the need for the Government to clarify its intentions in relation to participation in the Partnership for Peace; (2) Deputy Sargent — the need to introduce interim measures, to have immediate effect, to protect important habitats until such time as the Wildlife (Amendment) Bill has been enacted in the light of the unprecedented destruction of habitats, in particular, wetlands, dunes and hedgerows and in recognition of Ireland's obligations under EU law to implement the Bird Directive and the Habitat Directive; (3) Deputy Neville — the need to include County Limerick as a rural tax designation area; (4) Deputy Richard Bruton — the loss of a teacher from the St. Vincent De Paul infant school, Marino, three months into the school year, which will cause infant class size to significantly exceed the guidelines of 35 and cause serious disruption to classes which are now well established; (5) Deputy Gregory — the serious medical condition of Josephine Haydon, prisoner in Limerick women's prison, conditions in the prison and the case to release this prisoner on compassionate grounds; (6) Deputy Broughan — the need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to outline her response to the interim interdepartmental report on the national minimum wage and for it's immediate implementation given the cuts in corporation and other taxes. The matters raised by Deputies Broughan, Neville, Sargent and Gregory have been selected for discussion.
