Ceist:

198 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the position in relation to an application for headage for a person (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26639/98]

The onus to make an application under the area aid scheme in a given year rests with the herdowner concerned. My Department advertised the application period at local and national level to ensure all herdowners were aware of the importance of submitting an application.

In 1998, to facilitate potential applicants, my Department issued a pre-printed application form to all herdowners who had made an application in 1997. The person named was an applicant in 1997 and a form was issued to him in this context.
