Vol. 498 No. 1

Written Answers. - Birth Certificates.

John Perry

Ceist:

241 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children if a birth certificate will be released for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26483/98]

The administration of the registration system, is statutorily a matter for An tArd-Chláraitheoir (Registrar-General) of Births, Deaths and Marriages and for Registrars who operate under his general direction. I have had inquiries made with An tArd-Chláraitheoir and he has informed me that an application was made for a certified copy of a birth entry to the office of the Superintendent Registrar for Dublin. However despite extensive searches in the registers in the Superintendent Registrar's office and index of births maintained by the General Register Office no trace could be found of an entry to match the details supplied. The applicant has been informed and information regarding the procedure for the late registration of births has been issued.
