Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ring — the inaccurate replies to parliamentary questions relating to farmers waiting on headage and premia payments and the need to confirm the position in relation to outstanding payments; (2) Deputy Moynihan-Cronin — the need for the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources to ensure the fishing rights and the development of the Caragh River, Glenbeigh, County Kerry, are protected and that every effort is made to ensure they are kept in public ownership; (3) Deputy Broughan — the need to ensure every effort is made to maintain the 330 jobs at Irish Steel under the survival package for the company until 2001 and that the current difficulties do not result in job losses; (4) Deputy Gerard Reynolds — the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to provide funding in his 1999 Estimates for the provision of a sewerage scheme facility in Drumsna, County Leitrim; (5) Deputy Timmins — the provision of a physical education hall to Scoil Chomglais, Baltinglass, County Wicklow; (6) Deputy Hayes — the need for the Minister for Health and Children to establish a national register of practitioners for acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine and to establish national standards for the training of such practitioners; (7) Deputy Jim O'Keeffe — the need to discuss the removal or reduction of the Christmas bonus by the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs from recipients on supplementary welfare and the urgent need to countermand the circular to that effect which issued on 27 November; (8) Deputy Perry — the proposed boycott of Carrowreagh national school in County Sligo with effect from January 1999 due to rat infestation and the need for the Minister for Education and Science to outline the timescale involved in the building and opening of the new school; (9) Deputy Johnny Brady — the need to discuss threatened job losses at CTM Southborough, Kells, County Meath; (10) Deputies Farrelly and Johnny Brady — the need to discuss the closure of CTM Southborough Limited, Kells, County Meath, with the loss of 120 jobs and the transfer of operations to Tullamore, County Offaly, and the steps being taken by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to prevent the closure or to ensure alternative employment for Kells; (11) Deputy Upton — the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to clarify the circumstances surrounding the recent decision to halt the erection of an Esat mobile telephone mast at Kerrykeel, County Donegal; (12) Deputy Stanton — the need for the Minister for Education and Science to introduce a graduated system of entitlement for families with third level students who fail narrowly to qualify for the means tested maintenance grants; (13) Deputy Keaveney — the need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to report on the current position in relation to Fruit of the Loom; and (14) Deputy Penrose — the need for funding for Westmeath County Council to allow for the commencement of much needed work on the rural water supply from Drummond Cross to Killucan in County Westmeath.

The matters raised by Deputies Farrelly and Johnny Brady, Ring, Penrose and Jim O'Keeffe have been selected for discussion.
