Vol. 498 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

345 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that a resource teacher will be provided in the immediate future for St. Pius X national school, Templeogue, Dublin 6W, in view of the fact that a parent is anxious that her child (details supplied), who has special needs, stays in mainstream education in the local school; and if he will direct that this facility be provided in view of his agreement to providing the resource as outlined in a previous parliamentary question. [26309/98]

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that, pending the outcome of an overall review of the special needs of pupils attending this school, an additional nine hours special teaching support per week has been sanctioned for the school in question. This special support is being targeted on the pupil in question and other children with special needs attending St. Pius X national school. I understand that this special service was due to commence on Monday, 7 December 1998.
